Real Estate Taxes are never a popular subject and for many people paying those taxes is a hardship. For most homeowners the process used to arrive at those taxes remains a mystery. While assessments are essential in the taxation formula, added to the confusion are the multipliers and statistics used to arrive at them. With my extensive experience I have much to offer in making the tax bills understandable. I feel a change is necessary and that the people of Grant Township deserve respect and friendly assistance with the burden on those taxes.
My name is Dana Phelps. I have secured a position on the April 7, 2009 ballot. I am running for Grant Township Assessor. I would appreciate your vote for better government.
It is very important to have transparency in the assessment process. I will be a knowledgeable local resource for the many property owners in Grant Township. From experience, I know how effective township assessment officials can be to help clarify this difficult burden. Public officials, especially Assessors, must be patient, informed, available, and most of all, respectful, to their constituency.
I promise to have an open-door policy and courteous staff to assist the people of Grant Township. My major concern is providing excellent customer service. Through my years of experience I have heard many people tell me that they do not have a clear understanding of the process. This process should begin with a smile and genuinely concerned staff.
By state statute, property owners only have thirty days from the publication of their assessments to contest the assessment. Watch your local newspapers for these publications and be aware of the time frame. If you feel there is any error in the assessment, PLEASE come to the office so we can review your record. These are tough economic times. It is more important now than ever before for me and my staff (when elected) to focus on assisting you during this period. We will have extended hours during the appeal period in order to accommodate the working public.
I have been in local government for 15 years and counting and am currently the Chief Deputy Assessor for Fremont Township Assessor’s Office. My record and experience validate that I can, and will, serve our people of Grant Township equitably and with respect. Please visit my website if you have any question about my qualifications and background.
Every vote counts, and I would be honored to have yours!
